What should I do? I'm 17 and I'm dating a 23-year-old guy.

Women often select men who are seen as high value especially in their peer and social group.

Basically, it’s cool dating a 23 yr old while you are in high school, but all of that instantly evaporates once you turn 18 and graduate.

When you are a 17yr old girl and you are dating a 23 yr old guy, that guy by simple virtue of being an adult means he will be at the top of your social and peer group. You are lauded as being “mature” and the envy of all your friends.

But the reality is that any 23 yr old man who is rocking the cradle and dating a 17yr old is a loser. His 23yr old peers all look down at him as being pathetic, I mean, come on dude you can only date a 17 yr old child in school? It is highly doubtful the 23yr old has a college degree. I’m going to assume he does not and he is working at Starbucks or stocking shelves at Walmart.

even if you don’t go to college, you are now on your own as an adult he will not be able to make enough to support you and there is a good chance he is living at home or with a friend… So again, he isn’t going to be at the top of your social / peer group anymore.

So, when you turn 18 and leave the nest and go to college, the guy will now be 24 and your peer / social group is going to undergo an evolution and grow. Now, that 23 turned 24yr old working a menial job is not as hot shit as he was when you were in high school. Similarly, you will become more mature and grow as a person. Your college peer and social group is going to regard him as sub-optimal. I mean, why are you going to college and accruing $100K+ debt in student loans to end up with a guy who makes a little more than minimum wage?
